About the Department

Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the oldest departments of the institute which was established in 1980. It is also one of the largest in terms of faculty, students, and activities, continues to lead and expand its activities in various directions. The department offers B.Tech. MTech. and Ph.D. programs with a wide choice of specializations, electives and research areas. The department was accredited four times by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and was recognised as research centre by the Andhra University and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Kakinada (JNTUK).

The Department has 40 faculty members: 9 Professors, 1 Associate Professor, 30 Assistant Professors and 19 supporting staff. The department is having highly qualified and experienced faculty in all streams of Mechanical Engineering. About 55% of the faculty members have doctoral degrees and the rest are pursuing their Ph.Ds. About 450 research papers have been published in various International and National Journals/Conferences in the last few years.

The department is very well equipped with computational facilities and resources both in terms of hardware and software. Department has more than 160 computing systems and workstations loaded with wide range of software products covering all areas of mechanical engineering. Experimental and computational facilities are being continuously upgraded. The Department has Association of Mechanical Engineering which is a forum for students to develop their professional skills. Students are also encouraged to take part in awareness campaigns that have social relevance. Alumni of the department have occupied very high positions at National and International level.

Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering

The department is committed to equip our students with Industry 4.0 competencies, by aligning curriculum, laboratory experiences, and projects with emerging industry needs. Our vibrant student clubs provide ample opportunities to develop teamwork, leadership, and project management skills that complement classroom learning. Access to modern design and analysis software—CAD, FEA, CFD, and systems design tools—creates endless possibilities for research, capstone projects, and enhanced employability for the next generation of engineers. Take advantage of our specialized labs and Centre of Excellence (CoE) in the areas of manufacturing, drones and mechatronics, thermal and fluid systems, materials and composites, additive manufacturing, automotive systems, and renewable energy—to develop domain expertise that recruiters value.

A prime focus is to encourage internships at premier research centres and industry partners so students gain hands on exposure and real world problem solving experience, and to strengthen employer engagement and targeted training to achieve prominent placement outcomes. We guide every student to actively pursue internships, participate in clubs, professional societies and projects, and build a demonstrable portfolio of work; the faculty mentors and the administration are here to support you on this journey.
