Research & Consultancy Overview

The Department of Civil Engineering is a recognised Research Centre under both Andhra University and JNTUK. With six Centres of Excellence and an active consultancy division contributing over 80% of the institution's consultancy revenue, the department bridges academic research and real-world engineering practice. Faculty have published 150+ papers in SCI/Scopus journals and secured projects totalling approximately ₹1.2 Crores from agencies like DST and VGST.

The Department of Civil Engineering provides professional, multidisciplinary consultancy and testing services to government departments, municipalities, public-sector organizations, and private industries. The department combines experienced faculty, specialized laboratory facilities, field expertise, and modern engineering practices to deliver reliable technical solutions for infrastructure and construction projects across Andhra Pradesh. The department's testing and consultancy capabilities are further strengthened by its NABL-accredited laboratory facilities, enabling the delivery of quality-assured testing services in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards and technical requirements.

Domains

  • Structural Engineering — Testing, analysis, design, and evaluation of reinforced concrete (RC) and steel structures.
  • Geotechnical Engineering — Soil investigation, geotechnical characterization, foundation analysis and design, and ground improvement studies.
  • Transportation Engineering — Pavement design, traffic studies, highway engineering investigations, and testing and evaluation of pavement and highway materials.
  • Environmental Engineering — Water quality analysis- Drinking water parameters, Domestic, construction purposes, BOD, Aquaculture parameters.
  • Surveying and Geomatics — Topographical and engineering surveys, site investigations, measurement, mapping, and surveying services using modern instruments and techniques.
  • Municipal Quality Control Services — Quality control and quality assurance works for Bhimavaram Municipality, including construction-material testing, field inspection, quality assessment, and technical evaluation of municipal infrastructure works.

Institutional Impact

The department contributes more than 80% of the institution's total consultancy revenue, reflecting its strong technical expertise, laboratory capabilities, and sustained engagement with external agencies. The department has undertaken consultancy and quality-control assignments for government agencies, municipalities, and private industries across Andhra Pradesh.

Through its NABL-accredited testing facilities and multidisciplinary consultancy expertise, the department supports the development of safe, durable, sustainable, and quality infrastructure, while strengthening industry–institution interaction and providing students and faculty with valuable opportunities for practical, field-oriented learning.
